Matt was seriously a dream to work with. Besides the fact his photos are INCREDIBLE he is fun, laid back, sweet and genuinely happy to be there. You spend a TON of your wedding day with your photographer by your side so it is not only the quality of their photos that matters but also their personality. I have experienced way too many photographers while in or at weddings that were a pain to work with. Matt is the opposite. He is a joy.
He also stays out of the way just enough so that he is never ruining a moment. And to say I am happy with his photos would be an understatement. They are unique and yet classic. (He got up into a tree to take one of them! He is truly down for anything!)

Even though the plans for our wedding changed dramatically (due to weather), Michael was able to make the most out of the situation, and created an even more beautiful film than we could have ever imagined. It was skillfully shot, edited, and presented with great care. Mike has an undeniable talent for capturing the emotions of the day, just watch a few of their films and you will understand.
Out of all the decisions we made about our wedding, hiring One Tree Studios was the best decision we made.
We got married on the beautiful island of Bali in June 2013... and it was pure magic. We were blessed to have 104 of our best friends from all over the world fly out to share an epic three day wedding weekend with us in paradise.
To us, the videographer was THE most important part of capturing our wedding ~ more so than the dress, the food, the photography... we knew that having the opportunity to look back at a video on our 20th, 30th, 40th anniversary and reminisce the heart exploding love that happened during that weekend... would be priceless.
Being a destination wedding, we knew it would make more sense to hire someone local in Bali, but the super talented companies were fully booked (a full year in advance) and we didn't feel that the remaining video teams there could pull off the style we wanted. So we knew we had to look to other countries to find talent, and fly them to Bali. We actually had a videographer from LA in mind who we'd found through a friend, and we were delighted when he said yes. However, a few months after our agreement, he sent us an email with a heavy heart saying that he was having health challenges and didn't want me to end up without a videographer at the last minute. I was totally devastated!!! But knew that everything happens for a reason and we just had to find someone as good if not, better... So our strategy was to scour wedding videos on Vimeo, by searching popular wedding videos and then narrowing down those that seemed creative and fit the style we wanted... and eventually we found One Tree Studios! We shot off an email to them, crossing our fingers, and instantaneously we were met with the kindest, most enthusiastic reply from Michael Ransdell. Luckily for us, Michael works together with his wife, Melissa, and they were both were itching to travel to Asia. Apparently they were just days away from clicking the book button on a trip to China. Must've been in the stars!
We met over Skype and had several back and forth emails prior to the actual trip to get clarity on the style and feel of our video and schedule. They had not done a destination wedding before, but everything was very easy and communicated clearly.
We finally met in person for the first time in Bali and they were SO NICE and professional! They were never in our face... and so great at capturing candid moments with us, our guests, the scenery. We had a bike tour and they had go pros hooked up to our bikes and even came for the ride!!! They were up for it all.
My now husband and I just LOVE LOVE LOVE One Tree Studios. Going into it, we really wanted something different, out of the ordinary and that is exactly what we got. Matt Frye and Michael Ransdell went above and beyond and let me tell you, we are hard people to impress at times! They met with us several times to make sure the pictures and video were exactly wanted and we couldn't be happier. I have said it and would say it over and over again, this was the best spent money on the wedding and is an absolute must! The day goes by so quickly and it's hard to remember and cherish all the details without the help of these two fellas. Every time I look at the pictures and watch the video I feel like I am right back to the day. Words could never express to these two and their teams just how awesome and timeless the photos and video are. Thank you!
Be gone the days of boring old wedding photos and films. This team has a way of capturing your special moments as they happen and without forcing them. It's so natural and the imagery is priceless. If you are into beautiful modern, yet classic photos that make the folks looking at your pictures feel like they were there, this is your bet. Not to mention, these guys are about as nice as they come. Well worth every penny. I have a hard time believing those images are us. Our photos and film are simply gorgeous!
I'm obsessed with my pictures!! Peter and the One Tree team were fantastic from day 1 - they took time to get to know my husband and me and our wedding day vision. On our big day, they were incredibly professional and captured every detail. The pictures are fantastic and are exactly what we were looking for - creative and high quality. They tell our wedding story perfectly!
As a cinematographer myself, I had very high standards to fulfill when looking for my wedding videographer. I did a ton of research to find the best option near my price range, and One Tree Studios truly stood out above the rest. The customer/vendor relationship is very important to them, and they show it by being very attentive in communication and learning about what makes your relationship unique. These guys are the total package, and even though it was a big investment, it was one of the most important things in the budget. Why spend all that money on the rest of the wedding and not beautifully document such a special day? To be able to share those moments with other loved ones in the future and to look back at where it all began is a blessing. Video quality, camera angles, audio, editing, music choice, the storytelling, and their overall technique was beautifully thought out and executed. I can't wait to see what they do with my friend's wedding next fall! These guys are getting really popular so don't wait to book your date. Thanks One Tree!
I cannot begin to express my gratitude for Matt! My husband and I have the upmost respect for his creativity and professionalism. Matt has a keen ability to listen to his clients and capture their wants and desires in a beautiful way! His work is very photojournalistic capturing all of the “natural” moments whether it’s the tenderness of the first look or the laugh you shared during the cake cutting. He uses interesting angles, loves color, and is best when you let go and trust in his creativity versus forcing the stand-pose-smile concept. For engagement photos, he was very flexible in the various locations we wanted to shoot in and even with it being 103 degrees outside, he went above and beyond the time frame allotted to give us what we wanted. He had the perfect balance of giving direction for a great shot but also letting us just be ourselves. On the wedding day, he rolled with the ups and downs and the craziness of the day. He didn't seem anxious or nervous even when we were way off schedule. In fact, Matt's cool, calm, collected nature kept the rest of us calm. Intentional or not, it was like Matt recognized the importance of the day and didn't want to add to the stress or become a distraction. You want that in a photographer! Also, as a bride planning a wedding in KC from Ohio, Matt was very responsive in the planning process via email/phone making the distance seemingly nonexistent. He was by far one of the best decisions we made regarding our wedding. BOOK HIM!
My wife and I truly enjoyed working with Matt, Michael and the One Tree team. They are absolute artists that are patient, fun, adaptable and minimally invasive. It was really refreshing working with a team who seemed invested in recording our special moments as opposed to simply showing up and snapping an assortment of photos. I received multiple compliments from our family and friends regarding the professionalism and overall kindness of Matt and his team on the wedding day. These guys just get it. It's your wedding day, they understand that it is stressful, and they are going to do their best to help facilitate the day and make sure they capture the moments that matter most. The quality of the product speaks for itself when you view the gallery of One Tree's work. What you aren't able to measure is the quality of their character, which is what I'm hoping my review helps to establish.
